I am delighted to invite you to attend the 1st Congress of the Romanian Association of Medical Laboratories (RAML) with International Participation, which will take place in Tirgu Mures between 24th and 27th June 2009. The Congress will be held under the auspices of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC).
Tirgu Mures is situated in the heart of Transylvania in picturesque surroundings. Its history goes back more than six centuries, the city being first mentioned in the papal registers in 1332. Its cultural activity is supported by both the Romanian and Hungarian theatre performed at the National Theatre, the Philharmonic Orchestra, the History Museum, the public libraries and art galleries. It has three universities and a Social and Humanities Research Institute within the Romanian Academy. The Teleki Library is an example of priceless cultural heritage. Founded in 1802 by count Samuel Teleki, chancellor of Transylvania, who bought 40.000 books in order to set up a public library, it now holds more than 250.000 volumes. Some of the most valuable volumes kept here are the Metamorphoses by Ovidius, published in Venice in 1493, Liber de homine (Book about man) by Galeottus Martius, published in 1745 in Bologna, Genealogiae deorum (Genealogy of the Gods) by Boccaccio dating from 1497, and Epistolae by Hieronymus (1496), as well as first editions of the works of Galilei, Copernicus, Newton and Laplace.
The programme of the Congress will be extensive and stimulating, and you will have ample opportunities to attend different exciting sessions throughout the event. This year, the Congress is preceded by an intensive course on basic biostatistics and research design and by the 7th Symposium of RoEQALM for External Quality Control in Laboratory Medicine. As in each year, a comprehensive exhibition of laboratory equipment and reagents and industry-sponsored satellite symposia will give a good opportunity for productive interaction between laboratory professionals and suppliers of commercial products.
By the efforts of many people, we are continuously trying to improve our scientific events. Our conferences kept on growing in numbers of scientific abstracts and delegates. We received very positive feedback from the previous meetings. In addition to high scientific and educational content, the Congress in Tirgu Mures offers you the opportunity to taste the richness of our cultural heritage and unique charm of our city. It is the place for meeting old friends and making new ones, and a place where people from different specialties and disciplines are united in common interests.
